On Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., a coalition of African ministers and global development leaders will convene at the Africa Pavilion to discuss restructuring the narrative around climate investment on the continent. The Africa Green Economy and Sustainability Institute is organising the side event.
The session, titled ‘Forging a New Investment Paradigm: From Vulnerable to Investible’, seeks to dismantle decades of risk-focused metrics that have constrained capital flows into Africa’s green economy. The event is themed ‘Shifting the Narrative: The Africa Green Opportunity Index (AGOI)’, with a sub-theme, ‘Positioning Africa as the Next Green Investment Frontier’.
AGESI noted that current global models fail to account for the continent’s immense resource wealth, notably its more than 40 per cent share of the world’s solar energy potential.
The core message of the forthcoming launch is encapsulated in the new institutional mantra, ‘Africa is Investible’.
The AGOI, according to a notice by AGESI, is positioned as the definitive solution to unlock the vast financial potential required for African nations to meet both their development goals and global net-zero targets.
The index promises to provide a powerful, data-driven framework that emphasises opportunity and inherent wealth, moving away from the prevailing focus on perceived risks, AGESI noted.
The initiative holds significant geopolitical relevance, directly supporting the Brazil COP Presidency’s priorities regarding equity, inclusion, and South-South cooperation.
By positioning Africa as a vital partner for global green growth, the AGOI aims to secure fairer, more substantial climate finance deals for the region.
Participants expected to attend the event include ministers of environment from Nigeria and The Gambia, as well as representatives from the African Development Bank, UNDP, UNU-INRA, and the Brazilian COP Presidency.

The outcome of the AGOI presentation is expected to set a new standard for assessing the viability of green investments, providing the critical pathway for channelling necessary capital into the continent’s sustainable future.
