Faustin-Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic (CAR), is confirmed to speak at this year’s African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025, scheduled from September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town.
His participation follows a significant boost to CAR’s climate resilience agenda with the World Bank’s recent approval of $9.175 million in funding for the Inclusive and Resilient Cities Project.
This initiative aims to improve climate adaptation and promote sustainable urban development in Bangui and other secondary cities through enhanced infrastructure, drainage, and service delivery.
In parallel, CAR is making notable progress in renewable energy development to support sustainable growth. Key projects include the Danzi Solar Park, whose 25 MWp facility with 30 MWh battery storage, launched in November 2024, has cut diesel reliance by 90% and boosted domestic energy capacity by 40%, serving over 300,000 people. Expansion plans aim to increase capacity to 40 MWp and extend energy access to over one million people by 2027. These efforts, backed by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility, focus on rural electrification and reducing fossil fuel dependence.
Additionally, CAR is partnering with the Democratic Republic of Congo on a transboundary Water Resources Management Project, supported by the World Bank, to enhance flood forecasting, hydrological data sharing, and integrated watershed planning in the Ubangi sub-basin. This collaboration promotes ecological sustainability and disaster preparedness. CAR is also strengthening energy cooperation with Uganda, benefiting from shared expertise in off-grid and hydropower solutions.
African Energy Week remains a premier platform uniting governments, investors, project developers, and technology providers across Africa’s energy sector. NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, highlighted CAR’s renewable energy expansion and regional cooperation as promising opportunities for investors seeking sustainable impact and growth returns.
AEW 2025 will gather influential stakeholders to foster partnerships and deal-making critical for Africa’s energy transformation. For details and registration, visit the event website.
This comprehensive participation and ongoing projects underscore CAR’s commitment to advancing climate resilience and renewable energy as pillars of its sustainable development strategy.
